Natalie Tocco
Natalie Tocco, DVM, MS, DACVP is currently continuing her journey through zoo and wildlife pathology and conservation medicine in a research fellowship position as a veterinary epidemiologist at the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute in Washington, DC. Dr. Tocco completes many tasks but corely uses her pathology training from her time in the Pathobiology department to accrue mortality data of the collection animals at the zoo and is in charge of the wildlife health surveillance program to keep both the animals that we care for the people who care for them healthy.
Tyler Gavitt
Tyler Gavitt, Ph.D. is continuing to pursue a love of vaccinology and respiratory disease research as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Laboratory of Protein Expression at the Duke Human Vaccine Institute. Tyler’s current research involves the development of next-generation Coronavirus vaccines aimed at broadening immunity to protect against Coronavirus species circulating in animals worldwide. Broadly protective vaccines such as these are key to the prevention of future Coronavirus pandemics.
Erika Orner
Erika Orner, PhD, ABMM, wears many hats as both Associate Director for Infectious Disease Testing at Montefiore Health System and Assistant Professor of Pathology in the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her responsibilities include research design and management, scientific communication, management of personnel, and training the future generation.
