Candace is a master’s student in Dr. Elsio Augusto Wunder Jr.’s lab, focusing on the pathology and etiology of leptospirosis. She is investigating the prevalence of Leptospira in Connecticut and the virulence of locally isolated strains. Candace’s research is paramount to understanding the risk of leptospirosis in Connecticut and the development of a One Health approach to prevent transmission. Outside of education and lab research, her interests include hikes with her Great Danes, exploring local farms, and raising her son.
