Mohammad (Moe) Alboom is a Ph.D. student in Dr. Paulo Verardi’s lab and a master’s student in Public Health at the University of Connecticut. His research focuses on developing vaccines against tick-borne viruses, including Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV), Powassan virus (POWV), and Oropouche virus (OROV). Mohammad designs and evaluates various vaccine platforms—such as DNA, virus-like particles, inducible vaccinia virus, and mRNA vaccines—to study the immune responses they induce and assess their efficacy in animal models. With a strong interest in epidemiology and infectious disease control, Moe aims to connect molecular vaccine research with data-driven public health strategies that inform outbreak preparedness and policy decisions. Outside of research, Moe enjoys horseback riding, scuba diving, snowboarding, and hiking.
